The DJIA and S&P 500 were up to record highs today, as financial stocks led the market higher.
General Market Review
Financials
MSCI and Aon both gained 2% after jobless claims were better than expected for the week ending on December 26. The total was 787,000, while they were expected to be 828,000.
Energy
Further restrictions due to the new Covid strain remain a concern for the outlook on oil demand. Energy stocks were mostly in the red. Occidental Petroleum was down 3%.
Tech
Tesla was up 1.5%, due to continued hopes that reports next week will show better than expected sales from fourth quarter. Western Digital gained 12% today as investors expect a lower supply on their memory products as competitors set lower spending budgets for 2021.
